A three-day WILDERNESS Reserve WEDDING at Chapel Barn, Suffolk.
For this international couple, a wedding at Chapel Barn Estate at Wilderness Reserve in Suffolk was about far more than one day.
Guests travelled from around the world to spend three days together in the English countryside, with each part of the weekend offering something completely different: a Fire Feast hidden in the woods, an intimate woodland ceremony, a quintessentially British marquee reception and, finally, a late-night party beneath the disco balls.
This was a Wilderness Reserve wedding designed around the experience of being together.
Night One: A FIRE Feast in the WOODS
The weekend began with one of Wilderness Reserve’s most memorable experiences: the Fire Feast.
Guests followed leafy pathways deep into the secluded woodland, the smell of meats, fish and vegetables cooking over open flames filling the air before the setting even came into view. Salmon roasted on wooden planks, flatbreads charred over the fire and drinks were waiting as guests arrived.
Tucked amongst the trees was a tipi filled with rustic furniture and long wooden tables, dressed simply with sculptural calla lilies and flickering candlelight.
A roaming band played amongst the guests as everyone settled in for dinner, before the DJ took over later in the evening. As darkness fell, fires burned, candles glowed and marshmallows were toasted beneath the trees.
For guests who had travelled thousands of miles, it was the perfect way to begin. An entire evening to arrive, reconnect and settle into the weekend before the wedding day had even begun.
Day two: A CEREMONY beneath the TREES
The following day brought a completely different experience.
Nestled deep within the woodland at Wilderness Reserve, surrounded by ancient Holm Oak trees and wildflowers, the ceremony felt wonderfully intimate.
Guests made their way through the trees until they reached a clearing hidden within the woods. There is something incredibly special about a ceremony here. It feels private and secluded, almost as though the rest of the world has disappeared for an hour.
Afterwards, everyone returned to Chapel Barn Estate and the design shifted from the natural greens of the woodland to something much brighter and more colourful.
INSPIRED by the Bride’s Grandmother’s GARDEN
The flowers were at the heart of the wedding-day design, with inspiration coming from somewhere very personal: the bride’s grandmother’s garden.
Bright, abundant arrangements filled the celebration with colour and had the feeling of flowers gathered straight from an English country garden.
For the drinks reception, curated furniture created relaxed seating areas amongst the countryside, layered with colour, flowers and beautiful details. Guests could grab a drink, find a comfortable spot and properly enjoy the setting rather than simply waiting for dinner to begin.
That sense of time is so important for a destination wedding. When people have travelled across the world to celebrate with you, the moments between the big moments matter too.
An QUINTESSENTIALLY British Marquee Reception
Dinner took place in a beautiful marquee at Chapel Barn, bringing a quintessentially British country wedding feel to the celebration.
The garden inspiration continued inside, with colourful flowers filling the tables and bringing the countryside into the marquee.
Personalised stationery added another layer to the design, including hand-drawn strawberry escort cards, a lovely nod to the strawberries grown by the bride’s grandmother.
I love details like this. Not something included simply because it looks beautiful, but something that tells a story and means something to the couple and their family.
Three incredible courses followed, surrounded by flowers, candlelight and a room full of people who, by this point, had already spent more than a day together.
And then it was time for a complete change of atmosphere.
A late night PARTY in the Cellar
After dinner, guests headed underground into the Cellar at Chapel Barn.
The English countryside was replaced by disco balls, a DJ, music and a proper late-night party.
And then there was the cake.
Standing around three feet tall and covered with approximately 10,000 raspberries, it was less wedding cake and more installation. Completely over the top in the very best way and absolutely unforgettable.
It is one of the things I love about Chapel Barn. In the space of a few hours, you can go from an intimate ceremony beneath ancient trees, to drinks in the Suffolk countryside, dinner in a beautiful marquee and then underground for a completely different late-night experience.
A ONCE-in-a-Lifetime WEEKEND
Ultimately, though, weekends like this aren’t really about one spectacular table, one incredible cake or even one amazing party.
They are about time together.
For international couples, a wedding can be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring everyone you love together in one place.
Friends and family travel across countries and continents. People from completely different parts of your lives finally meet. Families who rarely get the chance to spend meaningful time together suddenly have three whole days.
A multi-day wedding gives you the chance to make the most of that.
Dinner around the fire. Long conversations beneath the trees. An intimate ceremony. Drinks in the sunshine. Incredible food. New friendships. Dancing until late.
And all the little moments in between.
Because how often in your life will you have everyone you love, from all over the world, together in one place?
Planning a Wilderness Reserve WEDDING
I have been planning weddings at Wilderness Reserve since 2019 and know the estate, its different spaces and the logistics involved in creating a multi-day celebration here incredibly well.

Behind the scenes, there are hundreds of moving parts. But by the time you and your guests arrive, you shouldn’t see any of them.
